If you're an idea person, I need to ask you something — how many of your ideas actually get done? I've been an entrepreneur for 30 years and I just figured something out that I'm almost embarrassed to admit. Here's what kept happening: I'd get an idea, tell someone on my team, they'd say "I'm on it" — and then nothing. It just disappeared. And my own ideas? They'd go on a list and die there too. The problem wasn't the ideas. It was me. I'm really good at looking at today and tomorrow. But next week? Next month? Next quarter? I don't naturally go there. Then I had an epiphany during a meeting with my executive assistant. I realized I needed someone to force my brain out of the "today and tomorrow" box and into the future. So now we meet once a week. She runs the meeting. She asks me the hard questions — "Are you still excited about this idea? Who should be working on it? What's coming down the road?" And something clicked. My brain starts narrowing its focus. Things actually start moving. Without this, my whole business was going in circles. Bigger circles, harder work, but nothing actually getting accomplished. The other thing I've learned? Every idea has a cost. And I need to be careful about distracting my people from the bigger things I've already asked them to do. It took me 30 years to figure this out. Hopefully it won't take you that long. This is Mike Thoughts from the Porch. How do you handle this? I'd love to hear from you š #Entrepreneurship #LeadershipTips #FounderLife #SocialMediaExaminer
