Ever pitched a great idea to a decision-maker and watched it go absolutely nowhere? There's a trap that kills good ideas before they ever get a fair shot — and I've seen it play out with thousands of ideas pitched to me over my decades as a CEO. Here's the model that actually gets through (even to a skeptic like me who says no to almost everything): → What: State the idea concisely — a paragraph, max
→ Why: This is where the effort goes. Contextualize it to them. What problem have they been trying to solve? It's not about you, it's about them
→ Who: Who's the ideal person to solve this? Decision-makers often assume it has to be them — tell them it doesn't Now here's the trap: the How. Don't lead with how. Don't even mention it until after the what, the why, and the who. The how is where you get stuck — and it's where the person you're pitching gets stuck, because they'll critically analyze every detail of it. It seems counterintuitive, but skipping the how up front stops you from wasting effort before you've even gotten a blessing to proceed. These are my Thoughts from the Porch.
