Sometimes the biggest accomplishment of your career comes down to a single moment in time. Mine happened in Cleveland, Ohio. I was at an event put on by my buddy Joe — his first conference ever — and he was cool as a cucumber. So I walked up and asked, "Joe, how come you're so calm?" He leaned in and said, "Mike, you're not going to believe it, but there are people called event planners. They handle all the logistics for you." And a little spark popped into my brain. The gears started turning. I started taking pictures. I became a student of everything he was doing. I left that event with a tiny ember of a dream — one that would ultimately become Social Media Marketing World. But here's the thing: an ember isn't enough. You've got to stoke the fire. I got home and started making phone calls, finding event planners, asking questions, imagining what was possible. I believed I could do it because I saw my friend do it with my own two eyes. That first year, about 1,100 people came from 40 different countries. The key is to know when that moment is. Keep your eyes open. Soak it in. This is Mike Thoughts from the Porch.
